November 22, 2010 (Madrid, Spain) – Things seem to be going from bad to worse lately for Alberto Contador Velasco (Esp) Astana. His alibi of eating contaminated beef bought at a Spanish butcher shop was dismissed last week by WADA – read more here. This week, the Spanish Association of Beef Cattle Producers (ASOPROVAC) has publicly attacked the Spanish cycling star, will file a complaint, and is calling for a public enquiry to investigate Contador’s alibi reports yahoo.com.
ASOPROVAC is also challenging Contador to stop protesting his innocence exclusively through the media. The association says that Contador should instead use legal channels if he is really interested in clarifying what happened.
As reported previously, Contador, who won the 2007, 2009 and 2010 Tour de France tested positive for clenbuterol after the July 21 stage of the 2010 TdF. Clenbuterol is a medication commonly used by asthma patients, but on WADA‚s banned substance list.
