release by Solex International Cycle

February 19, 2013 (Montreal, QC) – Solex is launching a new line of e-bikes to the North American market with a fresh new look and improved functionality. Founded in 2010, Solex International Cycle distributes and markets Solex electric bikes throughout Europe.

Solex’s unique style was designed by legendary Italian design firm, Pininfarina. To cycling aficionados and new adventurers alike, the Solex name represents a sophisticated level of design and functionality.

Now an icon is making a comeback. Riding the popular wave of exploring one’s surroundings in a more natural, environmentally-safe way, Solex is introducing the Solexity x350 to the U.S. and Canadian markets in May, 2013. To the Solex organization, ’Think Green’ means more than just reducing your carbon footprint: With Solex, the emphasis on “eco” is synonymous with a self-sufficient, integrated design featuring a battery pack powered by BionX mounted under the carrier which is easily removed for rapid re-charging.

Artistry meets technology in the form of the Solexity x350 bicycle. The sleekness of renowned Italian design, combined with BionX G2 powertrain, assures an attractive and distinctive appearance, while providing a comfortable ride – just the kind of performance our discerning clientele deserve and expect. BionX patented proportional assist technology offers a safe and natural feeling, with an easy-to-control ride; you have to experience to truly appreciate. The Solexity x350’s frame is manufactured from aluminum, with quality components including a lithium-manganese battery, disc brakes, and Kevlar anti-puncture tires.

“The Solex mission is straightforward. We create pedelectric bikes that highlight unparalleled design, while keeping with our well-established brand image. We do this, by naturally integrating BionX technology with the Solexity x350’s exceptional design features,” said Robert Guimond, Director of Solex International. “The Solexity x350 signals an eco-friendly and fresh entry into the U.S. market. We’re targeting the launch of three new models in 2014,” explained Guimond.

Solex History

The Solex firm was created in 1905 as a manufacturer of carburetors for buses. In 1940, following his vision of a more efficiently-powered vehicle, Marcel Mennesson had a prototype equipped with a motor attached to the front wheel.

Following World War II – and as a reaction to the changing economic reality caused by the war – Marcel Mennesson and Maurice Goudard began manufacturing the VéloSolex bicycle in France as a way of energizing the transportation industry in post-war Europe, and facilitating transportation for the growing number of citizens wishing to experience this relatively new and exciting mode of transport. The VéloSolex afforded its users a much-appreciated sense of independence following the turmoil and constraints of war-time Europe. In fact, as an alternative to automobile transport, the VéloSolex became known as a cost-effective means of transportation that quickly became extremely popular in France in the 1940s.

Production of the increasingly sought-after bicycle began in April of 1946, With its reasonable price and integrated, sleek design, the VéloSolex lent itself to daily use for both necessary transportation and leisurely rides.

An icon, a legend – a brand
The burgeoning brand began to make its mark on the global stage and from 1946 to 1988 more than 8 million VéloSolex bicycles were sold in over 70 countries worldwide. Throughout its 30 years of successful production, VéloSolex has expanded to include a number of different models suited to a variety of global markets.

Following a number of successive acquisitions and restructuring, production ceased in 1988. In 2004, a French group purchased the brand with a view toward marketing the E Solex, an electric bicycle designed by Pininfarina, the celebrated Italian car design ¬rm that has been employed by such high-end automobile manufacturers as Ferrari, Maserati, Rolls-Royce, and Alfa Romeo. With this re-invigorated vision and mission in place, the E Solex has continued to build on the rich heritage of its past and has moved toward the future as a re ection of bicycle consumers’ priorities and concerns: the successful marriage of form and function.
