Simon Lambert-Lemay on Winning Quebec’s Male Athlete of the Year

December 23, 2006 — On December 20, at the 34th Gala Sports Québec, road cyclist Simon Lambert-Lemay, from Longueuil, QC, received the La Cage aux sports Québec’s Athlete of the Year (men’s category). We contacted Lambert-Lemay about winning the prestigious award and here’s what he had to say”¦

“I’m a student in grade eleven at De Mortagne High School where I’m in a cycling sport program, so I study in the morning and train in the afternoon. I have an 86% grade average and I’m 16 years old.

I’ve been racing since I was 11 years old. For the past four years, I’ve been coached by Pierre Lemay and André Breton from Performance de Pointe (a Montreal-based training camp for cyclists).

In 2004, and again in 2006, I’ve been named male athlete of the year’ by the FQSC (Quebec Cycling Federation). In 2006, I won the “˜Maurice’ for being the “˜best male athlete in Quebec’ (for all sports combined) at the Gala Sports-Quebec held at the Laval Sheraton. I’m very happy with this honour; it’s a very nice way to conclude my best season ever.

I will ride with André Cycle/idCAD Team in 2007. My goal for next year is to compete in the Tour de l’Abitibi and at the Canadian Road Championships with the Québec Team. I also want to compete at the 2007 UCI Junior Road and Track World Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico, with the Canadian team.”

Dominique Rollin, the 2006 Canadian road champ, is Lambert-Lemay’s “sponsor” as part of the FQSC’s “Roulez Gagnant” program.
