May 17, 2004 – Three short years ago, former OCA member Shelly Gautier rode the season opening race at Dagmar. Unfortunately, tragedy would strike at Mt. Snow in Vermount as she was involved in a crash which paralyzed most of the right side of her body.
She now rides on a recumbent trike that was modified by Duke's. On June 6, Shelley will joint thousands of other cyclists for the Ride for Heart on Toronto's Don Valley Parkway. Shelley is asking members to please consider supporting her as she goes for this goal. Last year she raised $3,000 for the cause and is aiming for $5,000 this year.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation funds research to help with neurological injuries like the one she sustained. To donate, please contact Shelley at shelley.gautier@utoronto.ca.
NB: New for this year, Hardwood Hills has organized a “Bike for the Cure Charity Ride” on Saturday June 5, the day before the Gears Racing Canada Cup. Come enjoy some great trails with your whole family (not the race course!), and great outdoor atmosphere and ride for a great cause. Bike for the Cure supports the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – Ontario Chapter. There will be 20K, 10K, 5K, and 2K distances.
