September 16, 2002 – Aitor González has won the tenth stage of the Vuelta a España, an individual time trial in Cordoba over 36.5 kilometres. The 27-year-old cyclist of the Kelme team handled the wet conditions best and was forty seconds quicker than his team leader Oscar Sevilla, who sustained his lead in the overall standings by a margin of one second. For González, who is making his debut in the Vuelta, it was his third straight Top-10 finish. The Spaniard also claimed victory in the eighth stage on Saturday and he finished ninth on Sunday. González is having a remarkable season. In the Giro d'Italia he also won two stages, including a time trial.
