April 20, 2012 (Monterey, CA) – Alison Powers (NOW and Novartis for MS) and Andy Jacques-Maynes (Kenda/5-Hour Energy) were the big winners on Day 1 of the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, CA. Powers won the 50-minute elite women’s SRAM Criterium ahead of second place, Loren Rowney (Specialized-Lululemon), and third place, Emily Collins (Vanderkitten-Focus). Heather Logan-Sprenger (Exergy TWENTY12 ) was the top Canuck in 13th place.

Jacques-Maynes took the sprint win out of a three-man breakaway, leaving Connor McCutcheon (Simple Green/Bike Religion) and Morgan Scmitt (Team Exergy) to sort out the rest of the podium. Logan Loader (Team Exergy) won the bunch sprint for fourth, 1:21 behind the leaders. Jordan Brochu (EKOI.com-Gaspesien) was the best-placed Canadian in 11th.
