Sea Otter Classic Road Race – Britton 2nd Updated

report by Team TIBCO/To the Top

April 16, 2010 (Monterey, CA) – Carmen Small (Colavita-Baci) won the women’s 76.16km road race on Friday with Dotsie Bausch (InCycle/Time to Track) in second and Rebecca Much (Team TIBCO/To the Top). Canada’s Cara Gillis (Specialized D4W/Bicycle Haus) placed 27th with Stephanie Roorda (Southern CA Velo) finishing 28th.

Bissell’s Paul Mach outsprinted Canadian teammate Rob Britton by 0.3 sec to lead the team’s sound stomping in Pro 1/2 Men’s 108.8km road race Friday under perfect skies and little wind, with Ben Jacques Maynes (USA) in third. Bissell took the top 3 podium spots and four of the top five places. Although the course was the same, the event did not see the powerhouse teams from last year – no Levi Leiphemer or other top riders made for a relatively weak field allowing the Bissell and Yahoo pro teams to work on sharpening their teamwork for the 2010 spring calendar.

Tibco Women’s Report – Much Takes 3rd in Sea Otter Road Race
Rebecca Much of Team TIBCO/To the Top took 3rd place in the Sea Otter Classic road race this afternoon. Much was part of a six-rider break the got off the front on the fifth of six laps of the hilly circuit around Fort Ord on the Monterey Peninsula. The stage placings were essentially determined by who had the best climbing legs at the end, as the circuit finished with a 2.5-mile climb. Carmen Small (Colavita-Baci) put in the late attack that got the stage win. Much stayed with Dotsie Bausch (InCycle/Time to Track) until the final 200 meters but had to settle for 3rd.

Alison Starnes powered away from the main bunch to take 7th, with Meredith Miller and Amanda Miller coming up the hill to take the next two places. “We had a good race again today,” said team directeur sportif Emma Rickards. “We would’ve like to have one more rider in the break, but everyone rode really well. We’re looking forward to another good day tomorrow.”

The Sea Otter Classic powered by SRAM road series concludes with the infamous circuit race on Saturday.
