Sea Otter 2007 — Super D

April 12, 2007 – The inaugural Sea Otter Classic Super D event took place this afternoon under patchy skies at the Laguna Seca raceway in Northern California. The course was comprised of what amounted to a fire road downhill with a few short double track climbs.

Riders climbed up to Skyline road, dropped onto the fire road and flew 3.2km to the bottom, where they climbed the last .8km to the finish. It is a far cry from what super D was envisioned to be, but then again, so is the downhill at the Sea Otter.

The finish was offsite (a 30-minute or so drive in traffic), east of the main venue and athletes had to pay an additional fee on top of their $35 entry to use the Sea Otter shuttles back to Laguna Seca.

Adam Craig (USA, Giant) took the win for the men while Kelli Emmett (USA, Giant) won the women’s race

Kiara Bisaro (Team RACE), Mical Dyck (Trek/Terrascape Racing) and Mike Jones (MMR/Marin) represented Canada.
