April 14, 2007 — The pro Dual Slalom finally went off this afternoon later than planned at the Sea Otter classic. After the torrential rains stopped and the winds died down, the rain tacked up the course and helped to firm up some otherwise slippery, dusty berms. Sabrina Jonnier (FRA, Monster/Iron Horse) and Mick Hannah (AUS, Cannondale) took the wins.
Followin the event Hannah commented, “In the semi final first round, my front wheel washed out and my cranks hit the ground which bucked me. After that it was good and smooth riding – more out of luck than anything else when you’re riding against all these high class riders.”
Jonnier knocked out defending world Champion Jill Kintner (USA, GT) in the finals and credited the rain for the “hero dirt”.
“Dual Slalom is different every year and it’s nice every year,” said Jonnier. “We were unlucky with the rain this morning but it made the course very ‘grippy.”
