April 16, 2004 (Laguna Seca, CA) – Canada's Kiara Bisaro (Gearsracing.com) and Seamus McGrath (Haro) pulled out all the stops to make the Sea Otter Classic MTB Time Trial on Day 2 a ' red maple leaf day'. Bisaro defeated US top rider Alison Dunlap (Luna Chix) and Gretchen Reeves (Rocky Mt.) despite having dropped her chain and having to run up a hill. McGrath defeated Liam Killeem (Subaru-Gary Fisher) and fellow Canuk, Geoff Kabush (Team Maxxis) in a tight race that saw six Canadians in the top ten.

Riders were sent off in 30 second intervals, or 60 second intervals for the top ten seeds, up the Laguna Seca Speedway and onto the dirt. The course began with open rolling double track along a ridge with a few steep climbs. The descents had some great bumps that were easy to catch some air on for those who were careful. The course ended with a fast, twisting descent that spat out onto a long double track climb out of the valley and back on to the ridge, then across the speedway winding back through the dirt and grass to the finish.
