April 16, 2004 – Yesterday's weather was slightly overcast, about 15 degrees: ideal race conditions. The course started up gradual pavement hill on a motorway, got steeper and steeper until a turn onto a gravel descent that zigzagged down through some rough gravel, ruts, and bumps, until back onto pavement for about 1km back through the start finish. Tire selection was tricky when choosing what would be the fastest tire on the pavement as well as having enough traction for the the dirt descents. In the women’s race after about two laps a main group formed at the front of 28 riders. A chase group remained about 30 seconds back,which gradually splintered down into three riders by the finish. At the front team some short fliers got away starting with Dara Marks (Ford), and Karri Barnholt (Subaru-Gary Fisher), with some other attacks but all were quickly chased down. The race ended in a pack sprint with Alison edging out Chrissy for the win.

In the men's race, Geoff (Kabush) took the early lead and an early break of four formed with about a five to six second gap. The main group chased them back down by the end of lap two, and Roland Green broke away for a few laps getting as much as a 38 second lead.
