January 08, 2016 (Toronto, ON) – Over 100 mountain biking fans gathered at Arta Gallery in Toronto’s funky Distillery District to share a glass and support at the 2016 launch of the Ontario-based Scott-3 Rox professional racing team, composed of top Canadian athletes multiple Canadian Champion Geoff Kabush, Derek Zandstra, Cameron Jette, and USA women’s Olympic hopeful Erin Huck.
The evening’s goal was to raise funds to help send team riders to the Rio 2016 Olympics this upcoming August. The Colorado-based Huck gave up a full time job as an engineer to focus on cycling when she realized she had the potential to make it to the top ranks.
Jette is preparing to represent Canada at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Belgium in two weeks.
The team also announced its new Maverix Racing team — a junior and U23 program to help future champions reach their potential and feed the next generation of the Scott-3 Rox Racing roster. The 2016 Mavericks are: Malcolm Barton, Jan Kocemba, Gunnar Holmgren, Noah Simms, Liam Mulcahy and Michael Solic.
Guests enjoyed browsing original paintings and artwork from international artists at the venue and participated in a silent auction for fellow Scott bikes rider Olympic Champion, multiple World and World Cup Champion Nino Schurter’s World Championship jersey and Zanstra’s Canadian Champion’s jersey. Fabulous food included mushroom risotto, gnocchi, sandwiches and smoked salmon.
