November 8, 2008 – Here is the latest cycling news from Saskatchewan, including a chance to meet the province’s Olympians and Paralympians, 2009 High Performance Team Membership forms, a new report from Canada’s True Sport Movement, a Lunch and Learn Workshop, and Andrew Thomas’s (Lumsden) Cyclocross Worlds Team announcement.

Come out and meet Saskatchewan’s Olympians and Paralympians
Catch the Spirit on Thursday, November 13 and pay tribute to Saskatchewan’s 2008 Olympians and Paralympians between 4-6 pm for a fun and entertaining time at the Regina Sportplex (Fieldhouse). There will be greetings made by Mayor Pat Fiacco, autograph session, tattoos, cookies, juice, and the opportunity to participate in fun SportFit activities alongside national athletes and coaches. CCES What Sport Can Do: The True Sport Report
The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES), on behalf of Canada’s True Sport Movement is pleased to release What Sport Can Do: The True Sport Report. There is one very simple idea at the heart of this report – good sport can make a great difference. The same idea is at the heart of the True Sport Movement. True Sport is a national movement for sport and community. Its goal is to help sport live up to its full potential as a public asset for Canada and Canadian society, making a significant contribution to the development of youth, the well-being of individuals, and quality of life in our communities. Lunch and Learn Workshop: Building a Strong Team
Building a Strong Team – Facilitator: Brie Ellard-Jedlic – Team building involves creating a climate that encourages and values the contributions of team members. It is the process in which energies are directed toward problem solving, task effectiveness, and maximizing the use of all members’ resources to achieve the team’s purpose. At this interactive workshop, we will discuss:

– Conditions for building a strong team
– Evaluating your team climate
– Team effectiveness A focused team

Andrew Thomas (Lumsden) and Brian Robinson (Alberta), will join Tim Heemskerk (and a Dutch race team: Team Jan Terpstra) in Holland to race ‘cross leading up to the Cyclocross World Championships in Hoogerheide, Holland, January 31-Februay 1, 2009. November 4, 2007 – Here is the latest from the Saskatchewan Cycling Association about their Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame and Museum and Intergold Roughrider playoff package, 2008 Athlete Assistance programs, and High Performance Committee Teleconference.

Saskatchewan Roughriders Playoff Ticket Fundraiser

The Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame and Museum (SSHFM) and Intergold have a Roughrider playoff package like no other! The successful bidder and their guest will be accompanied to this historic game by Grey Cup Champion, Plaza of Honour member and SSHFM President, Alan Ford, and his wife, Sally. This package includes a pre-game lunch with the Fords at Tony Roma’s and transportation to and from the game. Two tickets located mid-field on the 52 yard line in Section 104, Row 14 (below the upper deck press box) complete the package. Bidding is available through www.ebay.ca Search by “Saskatchewan Roughriders Playoff Ticket Package — SSHFM” Bidding starts at $300 US. All funds generated through the sale of this Playoff Package go towards sustaining the operating costs of the SSHFM.

2008 Athlete Assistance Info

The High Performance webpage has been updated with 2008 information. If you interested in applying for 2008 Athlete Assistance, please note the deadline to forward the application is November 30, 2007. All forms are available at the HP Development tab.

High Performance Committee Teleconference, November 16

The High Performance Committee is having a teleconference information meeting on Friday, November 16th from 7 — 10 PM. We will be meeting in two locations to maximize convenience and will be using a video teleconference:

– In Saskatoon the meeting will be held at: – 510 Cynthia Street
– In Regina the meeting will be held at: 1870 Lorne Street

Any one who is interested may attend, but all those athletes who are currently or will next year be part of the HP Program must attend.
The purpose of the meeting is to:

– Clearly explain the program, what the HP offers and what the HP expects from athletes.
– Review this past years projects.
– Discuss possible projects for next season.

If you are a HP athlete or plan to be one next season, if you are a parent of a HP athlete or prospective athlete or if you are a coach of an athlete or a coach who wants to get more involved with HP projects, we would like to have you out to our meeting.
