August 2, 2002, (Manchester, England) – Canada’s Clara Hughes and Erin Carter
did not ride for medals because in the semi-final round they both lost to
the eventual bronze and
fourth-place riders. Both Hughes and Carter rode superb times but were no
match for
Emma Davies (England) or Alison Wright (Australia.) Lyne Bessette (Canada)
rode against the eventual winner, New Zealand’s Sarah Ulmer, who some Canadians
may remember rode for the Quebec-based Elita team. Ulmer won the Gold over
Katherine Bates (Australia).
