June 9, 2004 – Ridge Meadows BMX volunteer extraordinaire, Sandy Jensen, was
recognized as Cycling BC’s Volunteer of the Year at the Sport BC Annual
President’s Awards dinner on March 9, 2004 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in
Vancouver.

For a number of years, Sandy has been a vital volunteer of Ridge Meadows BMX
and BMX in Canada. For the 2001 and 2002 BMX racing season, she sat as
President of Ridge Meadows BMX Track (located in Pitt Meadows, BC) and
brought a wave of passion to the Executive Board. With her intense
knowledge of the sport, which can only be learned through years of
experience, Sandy has upgraded the Ridge Meadows BMX Track to one of the
strongest in Western Canada with a large membership!

Sandy even went the extra mile to open her home in 2002 and 2003 for two BMX
riders from New Zealand who were on a worldwide BMX exchange program.
Having two young men around isn’t the easiest job to take on, but
Sandy looked after the boys for the duration of their stays in the Lower
Mainland. Not only did she feed these boys and provide excellent
hospitality, Sandy drove the boys to the many schools they attended for
presentations.

For the 2003 Season, Sandy helped to organize a “Fox Series” which consisted
of four weekends of racing at both the Ridge Meadows BMX Track and the
Action BMX Track (located in Surrey). This series was an amazing success
and the riders absolutely loved their Fox Gear that was awarded at the end
of the series.

Sandy always finds the time to come out to the track and watch her husband
Peter and son Dane and volunteers wherever she is needed! If and when you
come to the Ridge Meadows BMX Track, you’ll surely see Sandy’s bright
smiling face peeking through the crowd of riders to find new people and help
them experience the joy that is BMX.

Who knows, with BMX an Olympic Sport in 2008, maybe a Ridge Meadows rider
will be on Canada’s Olympic Team, thanks to Sandy’s great support. For the
