Salzburg Road Worlds 2006 — U23 Men’s TT Live Updates

September 20, 2006 (Salzburg, Austria) – The U23 Men’s Time Trial is underway at the Salzburg Road World Championships 2006. Racing for Canada are David Veilleux and Bradley Fairall. 61 riders are scheduled to start and the last man to ride today is Mikhail Ignatiev (RUS) on the 39.54 kilometer route.

– 14.00pm – Kazak Andrey Zeits is first to get the men’s U23 time trial underway.

– 14.26pm – The fastest rider at checkpoint one after 10.1kms is Uran Rigoberto Uran (Columbia) with 14.48.

– 14.38pm – Uran from Columbia is the fastest rider at the second check point taking 1:15 from Zeits’ time.

– 14.47pm – USA’s Steven Cozza catches Spain’s Juan Mora who begins drafting behind the American before re-overtaking.

– 14.49pm – Kenyan Chris Froome runs into a volunteer metres after the start but quickly remounts.

– 14.51pm – Stefan Schaefer (Germany) is fastest at check two as Canada’s Brad Fairall hits the road.

– 14.56pm – Columbia’s Uran posts the fastest time at the finish with 51.50.

– 15.01pm – Stefan Shaefer (Germany) has moved into the hotseat
finishing just under 51 minutes.

– 15.09pm – there is a new leader, Alexander Filippov (Russia) has crossed the line in 50.19.

– 15.23pm – Maxim Belkov’s (Russia) chain comes off on the climb after 10 kms – he has to dismount but is able to get going again quickly.

– 15.25pm – New Zealand’s Pete Latham sprints out of the blocks. There are only three riders left to start.

– 15.30pm – the final rider, Mikhail Ignatiev (Russia), 2005 TT Worlds winner, is on course.

– 15.45pm – Fillipov is still leading but Ignatiev looks to be having a rocketing ride.

– 15.55pm – Russia’s Maxim Belkov sprints into the finish but his 51.11 is only good enough for fifth – Filipov is still leading.

– 16.01pm – Hagen Edvaid Boasson (Norway) has moved into second place with a time of 50.41.

– 16.03pm – Russia’s Ignatiev is off the pace at check point two – 37 seconds behind.

– 16.04pm – Dominique Cornu (Belgium) knocks 51sec. off
Filipov’s time and moves into the hotseat with 49.28.

– 16.18pm – Just two riders to left to finish – Ignatiev and Dmytro Grabovskyy – but neither look like they’ll be able to beat Cornu.

– 16.21pm – Ignatiev is second! Cornu wins.
