September 21, 2006 (Salzburg, Austria) — It’s a beautiful day in Salzburg with a light breeze as the Elite Men’s 50.83 km Time Trial is underway (start 13:30 local time – 7:30am EDT). There are 52 riders on the start list – Polish-Canadian Peter Mazur has been crossed off the list. Representing Canada are Ryder Hesjedal and Svein Tuft. According to the CCA’s Sean O’Donnell, “We’re feeling confident. Both riders know the course and we’re looking for good results today.”
– 13:45pm – Canada’s Svein Tuft is on course now. Erik Hoffmann (Namibia) the first rider off has crossed the first check point at 10.1 kms in 15.54.
– 13:55pm – Tuft is in second behind Benoit Vaugrenard (France) at the first check point with a time of 15:12 – seven or eight riders have cleared the first check pt.
– 14:05pm – New leader is Brian Bach Vandborg (Denmark) as Tuft is now in 4th. Riders have not reached the second check pt. yet. Canada’s Hesjedal will soon be in the starting blocks.
– 14:15pm – Canada’s Hesjedal is now on the course. Vandborg (Denmark) is still leading. Tuft (Canada) has dropped to 7th.
– 14:26pm – Canada’s Tuft is now in 1st place after the second check pt. at 35 kms with a time 47.56 and teammate Hesjedal is in second after the first check pt.
– 14:34pm – Tuft is now in 2nd behind new leader Yuriy Lovkvist (Sweden) in 47:37after the second check pt.
– 14:46pm – Canada’s Svein Tuft has crossed the line in 1:04:57 and is now in the hotseat as race leader – four (4) riders have finished.
– 14:55pm – Brian Bach Vandborg (Denmark) is the new leader with a time of 1:02:04 – Canada’s Tuft is now in second.
– 15:05pm – Canada’s Hesjedal is in second at the 2nd check pt. Vandborg (Denmark) is still leading with a time of 1:02:04, Canada’s Tuft is in 2nd in 1:04:57. Yuriy Lovkvist (Sweden) is in 3rd at 3:06 behind Vandborg.
– 15:15pm – Canada’s Hesjedal has finished in 1:04:24 and takes over second place. Peter Luttenberger (Austria) is in 3rd and Canada’s Tuft has dropped to 4th.
All riders are on the course now – USA’s David Zabriskie is in first place after the 1st check pt.

– 15:25pm – Vasili Kiryienka (Belarus) has taken over 2nd with a time of 1:02:25 bumping Canada’s Hesjedal to 3rd. Alexandr Vinokourov’s (Kazakhstan) chain came off on the first climb but he’s back on course with a push start.
– 15:35pm – Fabian Cancellara (Switzerland) is leading after the 1st check pt. while Michael Rogers (Australia) could only manage 7th.

– 15:55pm – Fabian Cancellara (Switzerland) has come thru the 2nd check pt with the fastest time at 44:13. Belgium’s Leif Hoste has taken over 3rd place on the leader’s board. Germany’s Andreas Kloden has now finished well back in 13th.
– 16:05pm – USA’s David Zabriskie is now in the hot seat with a time of 1:01:41. Sebastian Lang (Germany) is now in 3rd.
