Ryder Hesjedal Poised for Historic Giro Finish – Join the Celebrations at Domestique Cafe

by pedalmag.com

May 26, 2012 (Dundas, ON) – Canada’s Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin-Cervelo) has the entire nation on the edge of their proverbial seats, as he’s poised to make history as the first Canadian to win a Grand Tour, when the 2012 Giro d’Italia wraps up on Sunday in Milan with the final Stage 21 ITT.

Hesjedal has made history several times in cycling – in both road cycling and mountain biking – and barring any  mishap hopes to etch his name in the record books as the first Canadian to win the Giro, and the first Canuck ever to win a Grand Tour.

We recently caught up with Hesjedal’s parents when Ryder became the first Canuck to wear the maglia rosa and his Dad, Leonard, told us, “It’s not every day your kid makes Canadian history…” – get ready again Len.

Our friends at Domestique Cafe, run by Krys Hines and his crew, are hosting a gathering and CBC will be on hand to catch excitement of the finish and interview the legendary Steve Bauer who’ll also be watching this historic stage at the 95th running of the Giro – we hear that Sportsnet is also going to be there.

Bauer is Canada’s most acclaimed cyclist wearing the yellow jersey for 14 days in total at the Tour de France – for 9 days straight in 1990 – while coming 4th at the Tour in 1988.

Domestique will have pink beer and other surprises… Pedal will also be on hand to take in all of the action and excitement so if you’re looking for some camaraderie and a place to share cycling history join us all at Domestique Cafe in Dundas, ON, at 10am and let’s cheer Ryder on to victory.
