RWR/Peak Winter Series – Stage 2

December 21, 2007 – Stage 2 of the Ride with Rendall/ Peak Winter Series took place this past week in various locations across Canada. Riders raced on the series time trial course for the first time this year. The tt course has been a staple for the series from year one and everyone was keen to see if they could come close to the course records held by Aaron Fillion (34:17.6 in 2007)and Natasha Elliott (38:02.6 in 2005).

Straight from the word go, Mike Nash and Ryan Atkins put their heads down and looked to be challengers for the record. When all the dust had settled, Mike Nash posted a blistering time of 34:41.1 to take the stage win but was still slightly off pace with the record. World Unicycle Trials Champion, Ryan Atkins took second with a time of 36:29.9 with Ron Amos taking third (39:51.2).

In the women’s field, Tenille Hoogland rode to her second stage win of the year with a time of 41:02.1. While Tenille rode out front on the leader board, Val Davis and Lindsay Anderson were locked in a virtual head to head race for second. Stage 1 second place rider Val Davis (43:43.1) had to settle for third this week as Lindsay Anderson (43.41.2) put in a final serge to take second place by 2 seconds.

Stage 3 of the 18 race series will take place this weekend and promises to challenge riders with a hilly course profile.

The series is for all levels of ability, so come for the racing or come for the training aspect of it.
