March 16, 2006 – Stage 13 of the RWR/ Peak Winter Series is now complete and once again some familiar faces took home the stage wins. On a course that was peppered with short steep climbs, Derrick St.John once again proved that his Arizona fitness has not been lost. Riding to a time of 41:48.4, Derrick powered away from from the rest of the front runners late in the course to win by a comfortable margin. Marc Boudreau was second with a time of 43:40.7 that put early leader Patrick Seguin (43:59.8) into third.
The woman’s race played out much the same as the men’s . Natasha Elliott , fresh off a warm weather training camp, easily won the woman’s category with a time of 45:32.7 which was also the 8th fastest overall on the stage. The nearest women were Julia Fournier and Diane Dupuis who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
With three races left in the 16 stage RWR/ Winter Series, riders will once again return to the series TT course this weekend for Stage 14. Riders will have once last crack at breaking the course records held by Aaron Fillion (34:36.7) and Natasha Elliot(38:02.6). Both records are starting to look unbeatable for the time being as both Aaron and Natasha failed to break their respective records despite strong rides in their last attempts.
The TT is the only stage of the 16 race series that is repeated so riders can try to set new course records and personal bests on a profile that is used once a month throughout the series. Right now the challenge is out to see if anyone can beat Natasha or Aaron’s course records. I know there are alot of time trialists and racers out there thinking they could challenge Aaron and Natasha for their records. If you’ve been looking over the results week after week and continue to wonder but have not yet ridden, now is the time. Remember new riders to the series ride for free the first time out so you have nothing to loose.
