September 30, 2002 (Montreal, Quebec) – September was a very good month for Team RONA, with members winning honours in three stage races. After scooping up the first four spots in the Green Mountain Stage Race on the first weekend in September, the team went on to excellent showings in the Multi-Laser Grand Prix, in Gananoque, Ontario, and in the Bermuda Grand Prix.

Jeanson Wins the Green Mountain Stage Race

GeneviÔ¹ve Jeanson won all four stages and came first in the general classification in the Green Mountain Stage Race, held in Vermont August 30 to September 2. The Rona Team took all four top spots in the race, with Melissa “Meshy” Holt, Amy Jarvis and Manon Jutras coming in just behind Jeanson in the general standings.

An All-RONA Podium in Gananoque

The four-stage Multi-Laser Grand Prix was held on September 6, 7, and 8 this year, in Gananoque, near Kingston, Ontario. The event consisted of a road-race, a straight-line street sprint, a time trial and a criterium. The general standings are based on points won.

Amy Jarvis took the first stage, a 100-km road race, following a successful breakaway. Meshy Holt took the individual time-trial, ahead of Manon Jutras and Amy Jarvis, and Jutras came in first in the criterium, ahead of Jarvis and Holt. The RONAs let victory escape them in only one stage of the race, the street sprint, which was won by Canadian Merrill Collins (Cervelo). In the final standings, Holt, Jarvis and Jutras, in that order, held the three steps of the podium.

Amy Jarvis Wins the Bermuda Grand Prix

The Bermuda Grand Prix was held September 19-22. This race consisted of four stages – two criteriums, a road-race and a time-trial. Amy Jarvis won two stages (the first criterium and the time-trial) and came in second in the road race.

At the end of the four stages, Jarvis took top honors in the general standings, with a lead of 23 and 32 seconds, respectively, over Americans Catherine Powers and Laura Schmidt.

Team RONA is one of only two Canadian women's cycling teams in the elite category recognized by the International Cycling Union.
