May 30, 2012 (Victoria, BC) – To celebrate Ryder Hesjedal’s historic Giro D’Italia, fans, racers and Tim Horton Timbit Challengers are encouraged to wear (or bring) pink at next Sunday’s (June 3) The Condo Group Bastion Square Grand Prix, part of the Robert W. Cameron Law Cycling Series.
“All of Victoria – and indeed, Canada – are excited about Ryder’s historic Giro,” says Race Director Jon Watkin. “We all want to pay tribute and show him how proud we all are of him, here at Bastion, where it all started for Ryder and many of Canada’s top racers.”
Race organizers will be decorating the course and the kids’ bikes in pink and immediately following the men’s elite finish (approx 2 p.m.), there will be a Victory Lap (including the day’s racers, led by the elite women and men’s winner) around the square to pay tribute to Victoria’s most famous rider. This tribute will be filmed, posted and sent to Ryder. Riders and spectators are encouraged to show their “pink” colours during this lap.
