Robert Brisson Dies in Hit and Run

October 22, 2006 (Montreal, QC) – Robert Brisson, a well-known master cyclist and excellent sprinter, was killed in an accident on Friday, October 20, while cycling home from work. Witnesses described seeing a tractor trailer dragging a bicycle shortly before Brisson was found dead on Fairway Ave. in Lachine’s industrial park at about 5:30 p.m.

Brisson, 43, who worked as a training counselor at the Peak Centre in Montreal, had been involved in cycling circles for more than two decades. He was an amateur cyclist who became a bicycle merchant and he created a bike club (Velo Club du Sud Ouest) in the Montreal area. Some of his recruits became known nationally. In 2003, Brisson returned to road and track racing at the master’s level achieving many victories and titles such as the 2003 Canadian Track Champion and 2005 Quebec Track Champion.

A former computer programmer, Brisson looked after the website for the Peak Centre. Spokesman Pierre Hutsebaut of the Centre described Brisson as, “”¦a model employee from all points of view. He was punctual, honest, motivated, and very trustworthy.”

Brisson was also known in the cycling world for his generosity and great kindness. He is survived by his wife, Sylvie, and two young children.
