Road Cycling Clinics at Sea Otter

April 2, 2004 – Building on its reputation as North American cycling's most inclusive cycling festival, the Hyundai Sea Otter Classic has partnered with top professional road cyclists and coaches to offer a road cycling skills clinic at the April 15-18 event, held at Laguna Seca Recreation Area in Monterey, California.

On Sunday morning, April 18, Team Basis, along with Wenzel Coaching, will run a road cycling clinic as part of the Sea Otter Road Bike Tour.

The clinic will start concurrently with the Sea Otter Classic's new Road Century, and will include a 40-mile ride followed by a two hour session focusing on climbing, bike handling, and group riding skills. Those interested in participating in the clinic should register for the Sea Otter Road Bike Tour.

Frank Yohannan, president and CEO of Sea Otter Classic LLC, says, “This clinic is an important part of what the Hyundai Sea Otter Classic offers to entry level cyclists. We aim to give all cyclists, racers, recreational riders, and cycling families a chance to enjoy cycling in their own way.”

Representing Wenzel Coaching will be Roger Rintala, Wenzel Coaching's century ride training specialist. A veteran of the Death Ride, Leadville 100 and other endurance rides, Roger coaches all levels of recreational riders and those who wish to try beginning racing.

Team Basis is a women's pro cycling team focusing on the development of the next generation of US women's cycling champions. Team member Lauren Gaffney says, “Helping riders learn and get hands-on experience is very important to Team Basis at the elite level, and this clinic at Sea Otter is a great chance for us to share what we've learned with all types of cyclists.”
