Road Canada Cup Ranking

July 19, 2005 — After two stages (the Tim Hortons National Road Championships in Kamloops, BC, and the Tour de Delta in Delta, BC) Eric Wohlberg (Symmetrics) still leads the elite men’s Canada Cup ranking with 30 points. His lead is a single point over his teammate Svein Tuft, and the upcoming Tour de Gastown promises to have a heavy influence on the ranking. Ryder Hesjedal (Discovery channel) is close behind in third with 24 points, but Kirk Obee (Navigators, 20 points) and Andrew Pinfold (Symmetrics, 20 points) will try to close the gap in Gastown, since Hesjedal is not expected to start the race.

On the women’s side, Lyne Bessette is the new leader following her great performance in Tour de Delta. She is at the top with 38 points. The leader’s jersey was up for grabs in Delta as former leader Geneviève Jeanson was not at the start. Still, Jeanson remains second overall with 32 points. Sue Palmer-Komar sits in third with 31 points. Erinne Willock (4th, 27 points) and Gina Grain (5th, 26 points) will have a good opportunity to close the gap in Gastown, as both are criterium specialists and they will be in attack mode.

The next Canada Cup stages are held this Wednesday with Tour de Gastown and next Sunday at Tour de White Rock. For more details about the Canada Cup, go at www.canadian-cycling.com .
