Ride with Rendall/Peak Winter Racing Series – Stage 1

December 14, 2007 – The Ride with Rendall/Peak Winter Racing Series is back again for its fourth year. Stage 1 was held this past week in various centers across Canada.

Straight from the blocks, Aaron Fillion registered his series ambitions when he blazed to a stage win. Aaron averaged an impressive 39 km/h over the rolling 24.14 km course and clocked a time of 37:04.2. Greg Zuliani (40.02.2) held a slim 20 sec lead over Rob Orange (40:24.4) in a battle for second place.

In the Woman’s category, last year’s runner up Tenille Hoogland (44:01.5) rode a steady pace to pull away from second place Val Davis (47:01.5). Third place went to junior rider Lindsay Anderson who posted a time of 47:57.2. Tenille served notice that this year’s 18 stage series will be hard fought and exciting

Stage 2 takes place this weekend, where the riders will be visiting the series’ time trial course for the first time. The tt course has been a staple for the series from year one — the course has been in the series each season and tt are repeated throughout the season. With Aaron being the course record holder, one has to wonder if the record will fall as a result of Aaron’s great start. His time of 34:17.6 will be the benchmark for everyone. The women’s record has been even more elusive. Set in 2005 by Cyclocross rider Natasha Elliott, the record of 38:02.2 has stood strong and continues to be the time to beat since 2005.

The 18 race indoor series is designed for fun and fitness with the overall GC based on points. The series is for all levels of ability, so come for the racing or come for the training and social aspect of it.
