Redlands Bicycle Classic Introduces Disabilities Division

February 13, 2007 – PossAbilities joins the Redlands Bicycle Classic to create new opportunities for the community. The organization, developed by the Loma Linda University Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Institute (LLUORI), is the presenting sponsor of the 23rd Annual Redlands Bicycle Classic, taking place March 22-25, 2007 in Redlands, California. The organization will also introduce a handcycling division to the race, allowing persons with lower-body disabilities to compete.

PossAbilities has a long-standing reputation of reaching out to the community and making a difference. The organization offers a sense of community and activities to disabled individuals who were born with or have suffered a permanent physical injury and helps integrate them back into life. PossAbilities provides new direction and hope through physical, social, educational, and spiritual interaction with peers and their community.

PossAbilities sponsorship and contribution to the Classic will add a new dimension to the race. “The PossAbilities program seeks out partners who want to create equal opportunities and access for people with disabilities,” says Willie Stewart, director. “We are honored to be able to partner with the Redlands Bicycle Classic for 2007. This year’s race will be more exciting than ever with the introduction, for the first time ever, of the handcycling division. Some of the most inspiring disabled athletes in the world will be here in Redlands, competing alongside top cycling professionals.”

The partnership between PossAbilities and the Classic reflects the community support of the event and both organizations’ dedication to making the event something for everyone. “Our partnership with the PossAbilities program opens up a new dimension for the Classic,” says Brian King, Redlands Bicycle Classic race director. “Thanks to PossAbilities, we will now truly be offering racing opportunities for people of all abilities.”

This year’s Redlands Bicycle Classic, part of the 2007 National Racing Calendar, is bringing back the spirit of its original glory by offering races for all caliber of riders, from the professional to the recreational. Spectators at this year’s event will have the opportunity to support their favorites while enjoying live entertainment, food, drinks, and numerous booths at the Redlands Bicycle Classic Festival, located at the Citrus Avenue start/finish line.
