August 20, 2003 – Once again Red Bull Energy Drink is hosting its Red Bull Rampage, an invitational only, men's mountain bike freeride competition. For the third year in a row the best freeride mountain bikers in the world will gather to challenge the steep lines and cliff bands of Virgin, Utah for a piece of the $10,000 US cash purse.
WHERE: Virgin, Utah on the Kolob Reservoir Road near the red hills. Just outside of Zion National Park. (35 miles NE of St. George).
WHEN: October 16-19, 2003
WHY: For the last two years Red Bull Energy Drink and Bike Magazine have pulled off the most talked about mountain bike freeride competition derived from the innovative and progressive style of mountain biking. The competition site for Red Bull Rampage offers spectacular views and extremely challenging hills for even the best mountain bikers in the world. Athletes will battle the burly terrain vying to take the winning title away from last year's champion, Tyler Klassen, whose 30+ foot launch secured him the first place prize of $3,500 US.
The format is similar to an extreme skiing contest, where competitors choose their own line and difficulty level within a designated location. At this gravity-powered competition, athletes are scored based on difficulty of line, style, amplitude, fluidity, and overall impression.
WHO: The world's best mountain bikers, photographers, video producers, and industry magazines.
