Rassmussen Admits He Lied to the UCI

November 8, 2007 – Michael Rasmussen (Den) admitted in a press conference today in Copenhagen, Denmark, that he lied to the UCI about his whereabouts when he missed random drug testing before the 2007 Tour de France, according to a report by AP.

The former Rabobank rider was fired by his team and pulled from this year’s Tour de France after wearing the yellow jersey for much of the race and winning Stage 16, when it was revealed that he failed to appear for random drug testing in May and June. He originally claimed he was in Mexico at the time, but admitted today that he was actually in France and Italy.

Rasmussen denied lying to Rabobank about his location, despite the team’s claim that he had lied to the squad as well. Rasmussen also denied accusations that he used EPO or other doping substances. According to the AP report Rabobank is expected to reveal their own conclusions on the matter on Monday.
