June 7, 2007 (Courtrai, Belgium) — Belgian federal authorities have apparently seized banned substances from Quick Step team members today reports AFP. The Courtrai prosecutor indicates some 40 federal police made visits to a dozen cyclists and soigneurs in both (Flemish-speaking) Flanders and (French-speaking) Wallonia. A spokesman for the prosecutor, Tom Janssen, declared that preliminary indications are that banned substances were found.
Rumours have been circulating for many months about doping and the Quick Step team. Team leader Tom Boonen is apparently taking legal action concerning some of the earlier allegations. Meanwhile, team director, Patrick Lefevere, told the daily Belga that he knows nothing about the recent police raids.
