January 4, 2007 (Montreal QC) – Quebec’s Route Verte, an interconnected network of over 4,000 kms of bike paths and bike routes linking 320 municipalities, will be officially inaugurated this summer reports Velo Quebec, a non-profit group dedicated to promoting bicycling in the province. The event will be sponsored by PROXIM, an association of independent pharmacists with its head office in the Montreal area. Celebrations will culminate in Quebec City in August.
“Just like PROXIM, the Route Verte crosses Quebec, covers much of our territory and encourages the concepts of health and well being,” commented Véronique Lettre, PROXIM’s director of Marketing in a Velo Quebec press release. “Our participation in this project is completely natural. We want citizens of all ages and social status to ride bikes on the Route Verte either solo, in duo, or as a family… PROXIM acknowledges the magnificent success of this great initiative of Vélo Québec Association.”
“It’s with joy that we welcome PROXIM’S participation,” added Jean-François Pronovost, Director of the Velo Quebec Association.
The Route Verte, the largest unified system of bike paths and bike routes in North America, was originally proposed by Velo Quebec and the realization of the network is thanks to many partners, notably the Quebec Ministry of Transportation. Construction began in 1995. For more information, visit: www.routeverte.com
