May 5, 2008 (Brossard, QC) — At the GP Brossard Criterium held just south of Montreal on Sunday, Jean Sébastien Perron (EVA-Devinci) won the Senior 1 Men’s race, followed by Jean Michel Lachance (VW) in second and Guillaume Boivin (EVA-Devinci) in third. Ontario’s Vicki Thomas (Cyclery) won the Senior 1 Women’s race while Genevieve Gauthier (independent) finished second and Sarah Coney (Ultralink) finished third. Catherine Couture (Cascades) won the Senior 3 Women’s race followed by Melanie Provencher (Rouleurs de l’Outaouais) and Catherine Bovet (Cycles Performance-Cinelume). Full results GP Brossard.
A short distance away, the three-day Loto-Québec Road Race Classics (paracycling) of the Defi Sportif concluded at the Gilles Villeneuve race track on Montreal’s Notre Dame Island. Sunday saw a victory in the criterium race by the tandem duo of Daniel Chalifour and Alex Cloutier (VW) over Stéphane Côté and Pierre Olivier Boily (Sleeman). Meanwhile, at the Sandy Springs Cycling Challenge in Sandy Springs, Georgia, Team VW’s Bruno Langlois placed second behind Peter Dawson (Rock Racing) wearing the colours of the US team, Myogenesis. Christan Helmig (Metro Volkswagen) finished third while Maxime Vives (Calyon) finished 13th — see results here.
This was the final event of the USA Crits Speed Week. Team VW’s Eric Boily, also racing for Myogenesis, DNF’d on Sunday, but finished 14th overall at Speed Week. (see results here.)
Boily and Cloutier are both heading for New York State’s Bear Mountain Spring Classic on Sunday, May 11. The next FQSC-sanctioned road race in Quebec is the Granby GP, about an hour east of Montreal on Saturday, May 10 — for more info click here.
