February 10, 2007 – At St. John’s City Council’s regular meeting on Monday, Feb 06, Council agreed “Approval to Award Tender” for Phase 1 of the NL Sports Centre. The Council’s approval means that construction on the new indoor multi-sport training facility can start as soon as possible. Phase 2 of the project, the High Performance Centre with Strength and Conditioning Room, is out to tender now and closes at the end of the month.
“This is a positive move forward in providing us with new facility to access, possibly by the end of this year,” Tom Godden, President of Sport NL, commented, “We are very pleased to be one step closer to seeing the NL Sport Center become a reality. Sport organizations in the province are anxiously looking forward to having this first class facility available for training and competition. I would like to thank our member Sport Governing Bodies for their support and contribution to this process.”
