October 24, 2007 — The following is a joint statement issued by the International Association of Professional Cycling Teams (AIGCP) and the International Professional Cycling Teams (IPCT).
Concerning the 2008 season calendar, IPCT expresses the following standpoint:
– The teams take note of the fact that the UCI has decided not to put certain major events on the ProTour calendar
– Consequently, concerning these races, the teams will act in concert directly with event organizers (ASO, RCF, and Unipublic) in order to settle questions relative to teams’ participation at these events. We assume that the organizers cannot have participation criteria imposed on them for races that they organize and which no longer will figure on the ProTour calendar
– The teams wish that this dialogue (with event organizers) will be finalized in the near future, without counterproductive interference, in order to guarantee a peaceful 2008 season and not a repeat of the polemic which marred the beginning of the 2007 season
Cordially,
AIGCP — IPCT
