April 4, 2005 (Redlands, CA) – In a time of cyclist being specialist, it might seem a little surprising to see Ina Yoko Teutenberg, fresh off Saturday’s Criterium victory, win the Shaver Auto Center Sunset Road Race yesterday. With no real chance at the overall win, the women let her go as the overall leaders watched each other. She won the hilly 56 mile race by almost a minute over the second place Annette Beutler and third place Tina Pic, both of Quark, with a time of 2:35:07 .

Christine Thorburn, with the help of her Webcor team mates, stayed up front and finished 5th in the Stage. After four days of attacks, the women who earned the yellow on the first day with a 4-second win held on to the overall championship by two seconds over second place Annette Beutler, Third overall went to T-Mobile’s Kimberly Baldwin, who’s second place at Oak Glen moved her up near the top.

The end of the men’s road race looked like the end of yesterday’s criterium. The 92 mile hilly road race finished with five circuit laps on the criterium course. A lead group of 30, with the leader and all the top contenders made it on to the finish circuit. The Colavito Olive Oil / Sutter Home team was doing much of the work, Juan Haedo to the front for his second win with a time of 3:29:04. Canadian Charles Dionne (Webcor) finished second for a second straight day. Third place was Ben Brooks, of the home team, Team Redlands JellyBelly PoolGel. The Overall stayed the same, Chris Wherry of Heath Net presented by Maxxis, the Prologue winner by 11 seconds on the first day, held on to win the overall by seven seconds. Second was Trent Lowe of Jittery Joe’s-Kalahara. Third place went to California Giant-Village Peddler’s Liam Kileen.
