May 09, 2012 (Uxbridge, ON) – Originally created from scratch for the 2010 Ontario Provincial Championships, Woodnewton is back for its 3rd year to thrill riders with its mix of twisty single-track and demanding double-track climbs. Pre-registration closes May 9th and event day registration is available on-site.
Racers are invited to pre-ride the course on Thursday and Friday evenings between 4 and 8pm. To participate, racers will need a licence or a one-day permit for Sport, Youth and Beginner Categories. Licences are available for purchase online through the Ontario Cycling Association. For a guide to the licensing system check out the OCA Licence Guide.
Woodnewton is the second stop on the 2012 Plastiglas Ontario Cup circuit. Favored by racers for its pristine single-track and close proximity to Toronto, it has quickly established itself as a top-class venue. Since their inception, the trails at Woodnewton have been continually evolving and this year is no exception thanks to the tireless work of course designer Sean Ruppel.
“This will be the first year for 2 brand new, expert only trail options that are sure to challenge some of Ontario’s best”, said Ruppel. Not to be forgotten, beginner riders can test their fitness in the Try-an-OCup category featuring a shorter, less challenging course.
Please note that Woodnewton is a private venue and pre-riding is only available on advertised days. Please keep in mind that on Saturday, May 6 pre-riding will not open until 12 pm as Chico Racing is also hosting a 6 and 12 km Tread Trail Running Race.
In past years Woodnewton has played host to some exciting racing. Past winners include World Cup superstars Derek Zandstra, Amanda Sin and Cameron Jette (Scott/3Rox), as well as Catherine Vipond (Norco Factory Team).
