November 8, 2003 – Woodbridge, Ontario's Andrew Pinfold finds a new home on the BC Squad, Symmetrics. After years on the Toronto-based Atlas Cold – Italpasta, Pinfold sat down with Pedal to talk about next year.

Pedal: Andrew, new team for next year, are you excited?

Pinfold: Yeah new team, Symmetrics. I am excited the program that they have laid out for next year looks very good and the support that I will be receiving while being able to live in Victoria is going to be great. The team has a good mix of very of strong younger and older riders who I think are going to really turn a few heads this season. I will also be able to help some young guys learn some of the ropes which is something I didn't have the opportunity to do(I was the young guy for 4 years!)

Pedal: Why the change?

Pinfold: Well really it is just a case of geography. I have always wanted to live in Victoria and this wasn't going to be possible on Ital. I have started back at school this year here and I don't really feel like travelling back to Ontario in the summer.

Pedal: What kind of program for 2004?

Pinfold: Well briefly, the bigger races that we hope to be racing in are the Vuelta a Bisbee, The Gila, Cascade Classic, Beauce, Nationals, B.C. Superweek, and Altoona. Right now there is a chance we will be going to do some of the California races in the spring.

Pedal: What happened to Health Net?

Pinfold: Essentially they gave me an offer that I could not accept. Basically “you'll be on the team but you won't get paid and we can't guarantee you'll be doing much racing”.  In all fairness the, manager of Health Net, Greg Raifman, told me that that he really thought I deserved more and thought it was not in my best interests to accept it but there was so few pro teams in the States at the moment and he had so many good riders that that was all he could offer.

Pedal: Do you know many of your new teammates?

Pinfold: Not really. I know Min (Van Velzen) fairly well but that is about it. Of course I know who the guys are and what a lot of them have done in the sport, but not on a personal level.

Pedal: What is Symmetrics?

Pinfold: A computer software company. That is about all I know at the moment. You can visit them on the web or check out our team site at www.symmetricscycling.com. It is a pretty good site.
