March 7, 2007 (Montreal, QC) – The Federation Quebecoise des Sports Cyclistes is advertising a position with its photo finish team and timing for road and track cycling. The contract extends from April to September and involves both weekday and weekend work.
The responsibilities and job description include:
Before competitions
– preparing for cycling events
– preparing data from race registration forms
– working with the race organiser to validate work installations
– picking up materiel from the FQSC
– follow up and maintenance of equipment
At the race site
– bringing the timing equipment to competition locations
– setting up equipment and doing tests
– providing start lists for the commissaires
– operating the photo-finish or chronometry system during the competition. working with the commissaires to correct mistakes in the results
– printing of competition results for the different categories
– in the case of stage races, calculate the cumulative standings
.
After the Race
– creating PDF files, incorporating all race results
– sending results for website publication
– as the case warrants, working to correct result errors over the following week
– maintain equipment and ensure its proper functioning at competitions
Expenses
Transportation: An allocation of 30¢/km will be offered if this amount is less than the cost of car rental
Honorarium:
According to the remuneration scale in effect according to the type of race and sanction.
Food and lodging (where necessary) are offered by the race organizing committee of the event
Requirements
A good knowledge of computers and of electronics. This is an ideal position for a college or university student in computer sciences.
Knowledge of cycling is essential
Knowledge of photography and working with volunteers is desirable
Bilingualism is an asset, but candidates with minimal French will be considered for the job
Personal Qualities
– being able to work under minimal supervision;
– displaying leadership;
– taking charge of his/her responsibilities;
– ability to work in a team;
– can work under pressure.
