Pejril and Pendrel Awarded at Kamloops Sporting Banquet

April 16, 2007 – The annual Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame Banquet took place this Saturday April 14th. Two members of the city’s cycling community were recognized for their contributions to sport in Kamloops.

Henry Pejril won the “Sportsperson of the Year” award for his organization of the 2006 Canadian Mountain Bike Nationals and BC Summer Games cycling events. Henry has an impressive resume of hosting championships. Since 2002 Kamloops has been host to two Road Nationals, two MTB Nationals and two Masters World Championships. Pejril Looks forward to adding a Cyclocross National Championships to this already impressive list.

Catharine Pendrel was awarded Kamloops “Female Athlete of the Year” for her silver medal at the Pan American Championships, fourth place at MTB Nationals and #1 Ranking on the CCA MTB ranking system.

Kelly Smith, also a mountain bike enthusiast, was guest speaker for the evening. Smith, a very impressive individual won Silver in the Wheelchair Marathon event at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens.
