December 31, 2007 – We are pleased to announce the winners of our 2007 Canadian Cycling Awards as chosen by pedalmag.com readers. Svein Tuft (BC) took top honours, winning Best Overall Cyclist, Best Overall Senior/U23 Male Cyclist and Best Road Cyclist. Tuft had a strong season, winning the UCI AmericaTour. He was the overwhelming favourite, receiving nearly 55% of votes.
Last year’s big winner, Marie-Hélène Prémont (QC), was the runner-up in the Best Overall Cyclist category. Prémont took the award for Best Overall Senior/U23 Female Cyclist.
British Columbia was the dominant province, winning six of 10 categories. In addition to Tuft from Langely, BC, who won three awards, BC’s Cody Campbell won for Best Overall Junior Male Cyclist, Geoff Kabush was voted Best Overall MTB Cyclist and Micayla Gatto took the Best Overall DH Cyclist category. Alberta won two awards, with Monique Sullivan voted Best Overall Junior Female Cyclist and Samantha Cools winning Best Overall BMX Cyclist. Zach Bell represented the Yukon, winning Best Overall Track Cyclist.
