September 8, 2002, Les Gets, France – Great Britain’s Steve Peat has more
than made up for last year’s injury-plagued season by winning yesterday’s
final and the overall series title! The Les Gets, France 2.3km downhill
course saw top average speeds of 38km/h! Less than a second behind Peat in
the final was both France’s Fabien Barel (Maxxis-MSC) and current World
Champion Nicolas Vouilloz (Vouilloz Racing). The next racer was four
seconds down on the top three.

Of the 171 men that competed only 80 made in to the finals. Canadians that
took part were eliminated in the semi-final run; Eric Goss (107th), Mike
Jones (109th), Trevor Porter (112th), Brant Lyon (157th) and Geoff Pendrel
(165th).

While Peat won a well-deserved title, Cedric Gracia (Volvo-Cannondale) of
France was second overall and Australia’s Christopher Kovarik was third.

Overall standings for the Canadians were more impressive. Canadaís Dustin
Adams, after competing in only two events, moved into 25th place overall.
Other top Canadians included Mathieu Laurin (63rd), Jones (68th), Porter
(70th), Pendrel (86th) and Lyon (90th).
