June 10, 2014 (Vancouver, BC) – According to several news outlets, Paul Dragan, the owner of Reckless Bikes, was shot around 11 a.m. today outside Starbucks at 125 Davie St. in Yaletown, directly across from his store. The shooting is apparently related to a dispute with an angry ex-employee reports the Vancouver Sun.

Dragan was rushed to hospital where he is in surgery and in serious condition but is expected to recover. A suspect was apprehended after exchanging more gunfire with police outside the Science World museum nearby. The alleged shooter was apparently shot and is in custody while a police officer is said to have received minor injuries.

Dragan, 52, is a well-known industry veteran and a popular fixture in B.C.’s cycling scene. He also served on the BTAC (Bicycle Trade Association of Canada) board of directors and is a former president of the BC Bike Coalition. Dragan helped organize Vancouver’s Velo-City Global international event in 2012 and his three Reckless Bikes outlets are well regarded in the community.

Pedal joins the cycling community in wishing Dragan a speedy recovery.
