Participants Needed for Cycling Study in Vancouver Area

April 12, 2012 (Vancouver, BC) – Cyclists and triathletes in the Vancouver area are being sought to take part in a University of British Columbia School of Kinesiology research study on the Genetics of Performance and Asthma Medications. Competitive and experienced male cyclist or triathletes are being encouraged to participate. If you have a documented history of heart disease or uncontrolled lung disease, or cannot communicate in English, you are not eligible for this investigation.

Time commitment:
3 visits to the lab on 3 different days lasting no more than 2.5 hours each

Day 1: Explanation of the study, familiarization with procedures, test to assess susceptibility for exercise-induced asthma and VO2max test on a cycle ergometer to determine aerobic fitness.
Days 2 & 3: simulated 10-kilometer time trial on a cycle ergometer following inhalation of asthma medication or placebo

Benefits:
You will receive a VO2max test to measure your aerobic fitness, as well as an additional honorarium of 50CAD/visit for your participation (150 CAD in total).
