October 13, 2013 (Tours, France) – John Degenkolb (Ger) Team Argos-Shimano took the win on Sunday at Paris-Tours, 235km from Authon-du-Perche to Tours besting Michael Morkov (Den) Team Saxo-Tinkoff in second at the line with Arnaud Demare (Fra) FDJ in third.

Hugo Houle (AG2R La Mondiale) the lone Canuck racing placed 35th. With this race Houle concluded his first season on the WorldTour.

“Today’s race started pretty fast because of the wind and after 50 kilometers a break of four riders got away,” said 23 year-old Houle in a Sportcom interview. “The race really started after 200km with a fairly steep hill. My role was to put my teammates at the foot of the hill, so I drove the pace for about ten kilometers. I felt good and wanted to do everything possible to finish in style.”

Earlier in the week at Binche -Tournai -Binche (1.1) in Belgium, he place 27th at 14 seconds behind the winner. “I was in the breakaway of 20 riders with two teammates, Lloyd Mondery and Davide Appollonio. We were caught with 10km to go but it was still was a good day at the office,” added Houle. At Paris-Bourges (1.1) he finished 77th at 17 seconds behind the winner.

“I felt good all week and this is very positive,” concluded Houle. The beginning of the season was marked by the tragic death of his brother Pierrik. “I was emotionally upset in July but things started to get better with every race. I finished the season in style and I’m still motivated.”
