March 17, 2010 (Dieppe, NB) – In the recent years, cycling for riders with a disability was fully integrated into the disciplines governed by the International Cycling Union (UCI). Cycling races for disabled riders are now listed on its calendar and two disciplines (road and track) are open at present.

The competitions comprise four impairment groups – blind and partially sighted riders, cerebral palsy sufferers, locomotor handicaps, and hand cycle riders. Riders are placed in the appropriate category in the light of their functional capacity which is assessed during a medical examination.

This spring, the National Cycling Centre – Atlantic Canada, in collaboration with the Canadian Cycling Association, is happy to provide you with a chance to try cycling as a sport to satisfy your competitive, fitness or recreational appetite.
