Pan Am Track Championships Flash – Canada\’s Bell Wins Omnium Silver

May 8, 2008 (Montevideo, Uruguay) – Canadian Zach Bell scored the silver in the Omnium in a very tight and exciting day of racing as Colombia won the gold with the bronze going to Argentina. The Omnium consists of five events – 200m TT, 3km Pursuit, 5km Scratch race, 15km Points race and the Kilo.

Bell and the Colombian were in a tight race for the gold going into the final event, the Kilo, which Bell won. But the Yukon native need to win by two spots for the gold, instead of one – meaning he and the Colombian were tied for overall points resulting in a tie-breaker. The cumulative time in the Pursuit and the Kilo are tallied to break the tie, and with the Colombian winning the Pursuit, he edged out Bell who takes home the silver.
