by pedalmag.com

May 2, 2011 (Medellin, Colombia) – Here are the results from Day 1 of the Pan Am Track Championships in Medellin, Colombia. The Canadian team of Travis Smith, Joseph Veloce, and Stephane Cossette finished fourth in the men’s team sprint – the only event in which Canada competed on Day 1.

“They were VERY close to qualifying second this morning,” said CCA Coach Richard Wooles. “Missed it by .01 of a second. In the final tonight they were a bit slower than this morning. The surprise of the night was Venezuela going 44.538 to beat us. Which was the fastest time of the competition. Colombia won the gold with a 45.34.”

“I think everyone did a great job, and considering where we were even two weeks ago, progress has been made. This morning Stephane [Cossette] started 18.1, and this evening 18.3,” added Wooles.
