August 12, 2003 – Chris Baldwin of the Navigators Cycling Team took home the Silver Medal earlier today in the individual time trial event at the XIV Pan American Games in Santo Domingo. Racing as a member of the U.S. National Team, Baldwin posted a time of 1:05.24, 39-seconds behind the winner; Jose Serpa (COL). Third place went to Raul Chacon (VEN), a further 16-seconds back. Baldwin is the reigning National Time Trial Champion and this medal added to the four cycling medals already around the necks of U.S. riders, in only the second day of cycling competition.
Battling extreme heat and humidity, the Boulder, Colorado resident stated “I'm happy with silver, but a little disappointed since I wanted to come through for all the tremendous support I've gotten from everybody over the last few weeks.” Adding luster to his celebration plans was fiancée Kim Bruckner, who posted a Gold Medal performance in the Women's event.
