April 28, 2005 (Mar del Plata, Argentina) “” Canada’s Travis Smith brought the Canadian medal tally up to three at the Pan-American Road and Track Championships when he snagged bronze yesterday in the Men’s Kilo with a time of 1:06.983, only fractions of a second off the winning pace.

Colombia’s Wilson Meneses stopped the clock at 1:06.722 for gold, while Sergio Guatto’s (ARG) time of 1:06.849 put him into the silver medal spot.

Argentina is going strong. Along with Guatto’s silver in the Kilo, the Pan-Am Championships host country grabbed gold in the Men”š’ Individual Pursuit, with a winning ride by Edgardo Simon (ARG). Marcos Arriagada (CHI) placed second, followed by Brad Huff (USA) in third.

In the Women’s 20-kilometre Points Race, Canadians Mandy Poitras and Gina Grain placed sixth and eighth with seven and five points, respectively. Erin Mirabella (USA) won with 19 points, Yudelmis Dominguez (CUB) finished second with 15 points and Yumari Gonzalez (CUB) completed the podium with 13 points.

Diana García (COL) came out on top in the Women’s Sprint Finals, followed by Lizandra Guerra of Cuba in second and Angie Gonzalez (VEN) in third.
