Champlain’s Folly Cyclosportif Fundraiser for Ottawa Velodrome Project – July 14 Registration Now Open

release by the Ottawa Velodrome Project

April 19, 2013 (Ottawa, ON) – There are a lot of fundraising rides out there, but only one that lets cyclists support cyclists: the Champlain’s Folly Cyclosportif on July 14.

Registration is now open for the inaugural edition of the Champlain’s Folly. There are four different ride options starting in Arnprior, on some of the finest cycling roads in the Ottawa Valley, which just happen to parallel the historic route taken by explorer Samuel de Champlain in 1613. It’s in this region that Champlain reputedly lost his astrolabe while scrambling along a portage route in his quest for a route to China — Champlain’s Folly indeed.

All the proceeds from the Champlain’s Folly Cyclosportif will go to the Ottawa Velodrome Project, the not-for-profit corporation that has been set up to create an indoor velodrome. This velodrome will serve the cycling community as a whole by providing a safe place for initiation, development and training for cyclists of all levels, 12 months a year.
